Pastor
Alice |
|

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness;
but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Corinthians
1:18
But as it is written,
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the
heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love him.
1
Corinthians 2:9
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have
loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness
have I drawn thee.
Jeremiah 31:3

The Reverend
Alice D. Murphy was called to Colebrook Congregational Church in February
of 2002. A native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, she is a graduate of the
University of Wisconsin with a B.A. in Russian, and of Chicago Theological
Seminary with a Master’s of Divinity.
Alice is
also a graduate of the Congregational Foundation for Theological Studies
and received the John W. Claxton Memorial Award presented to a Fellow
graduating from the CFTS program that best personifies the precepts of
CFTS and thereby enhances the quality and effectiveness of the program.
She has also received the Harry R. Butman Award.
She has
served congregations in Hartford, WI, Hartland, WI, Grafton, WI and
Richfield, WI before immigrating to Colebrook, Connecticut. In the
National Association of Congregational Christian Churches she has served
on the Congregational Foundation for Theological Studies, as member and
chair, served on an Executive Secretary Search Committee, the Ad-Hoc
Committee, which developed the Congregational Foundation and on the
Executive Committee, as member and chair.
Alice has
also served as a board member of the American Congregational Association,
which works to maintain the Congregational Library in Boston and as a
member and chair of the Personnel Committee.
At present
she is serving as the very part-time Interim Director of Development of
the National Association. Alice has been published in The
Congregationalist, and in the Journal of the Washington Gladden
Society.
As pastor of
Colebrook Congregational Church Alice serves as spiritual leader and
teacher. She believes that the primary role of a pastor is to help
people grow spiritually in their relationships with God. She also
believes that we are called to reflect God’s love, caring and forgiveness
to others that have been revealed to us through the life and teachings of
Jesus.
Alice enjoys
most sports and admits to being a Red Sox fan while growing up with the
Milwaukee Braves. Her loyalties are split between the Patriots and the
Green Bay Packers, the Badgers and the Huskies. She enjoys the bears and
the rolling hills of her adopted home.
