Every year, when February 2 rolls around, I look forward to discovering what the groundhogs have to say about winter. (Phil said “More winter”; Connecticut’s Chuckles, a female, said “Winter has been canceled.” ) Usually, by this date, most of us have had enough and we are sure that spring is not too far away. This year has been quite different. It seems that we have bypassed the wild storms of winter all together and that spring is already here. But, do not be fooled. One never knows what may be around the corner in the weather forecasting business, whether done by a qualified meteorologist or a furry little beast.
Much of life is like this. We might have a plan in mind, when all of a sudden a new wind blows and we discover we need to adapt to a sudden change. Sometimes, these changes can be very good. A new love may enter our lives and make us discover just how full life can be. Or, we might retire and find all sorts of adventures before us. Of course, there are times when things turn sour and we need to reign in our hopes and set off on a long difficult pathway. Illness may overtake us, or we might lose a good friend, or we might learn of someone who is suffering.
Through all the changes in life, the good, the bad and the ugly, we need to have a solid base that sustains us. We should know that we can face anything, if we believe that we are loved by God and sustained by our Creator through all the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” that may befall us. People who have this knowledge are able to continue on their journey through life, taking one step at a time and finding they have great resources that keep them going even during their darkest, most disappointing days. We all have this strength we just need to take some time and patience to look within to discover it.
Peace and love,
Grace & peace, Pastor Alice

Due to the cooking efforts of Linda and Craig Farnham (leaders of the pack), Val Hagarty (the cannoli maker) and Jay Wardon (a Giants fan & chicken parm maker) many enjoyed a wonderful Italian Night at the CSCC on January 21. The cooks were supported by Auxiliary members who helped cover the many details that surround this kind of undertaking. Approximately $1100 was earned. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this event together and to those who came and simply enjoyed.
The reception for Dick Blankenship’s family was held on January 28 following his memorial service. Abrah Carroll organized this event with the support of many Auxiliary members and many others who donated food and time. The receptions we provide for families are always appreciated. Many willing hands come together to provide a special space for the sharing of memories.
The next Auxiliary meeting will be held on Thursday, February 9, at 5 p.m. We will be planning the Chili Supper which takes place on February 18, at CSCC 5-7 p.m.
The Auxiliary is always pleased to make a donation to the CSCC for use of the facility.
